Omaha Furshion Week will be the first official Fashion Week dedicated to dogs that will take place on June 3rd and 4th, 2016. Heading the efforts of the event, Omaha.dog and Benson First Friday, think it will be a great addition to the dog community of Omaha and just a fun event for the whole family.
“We wanted to create something unique and fun to showcase the talent and dog-friendly business in Omaha. ” says Jeannie North and Leah Thrasher, Co-founders of Omaha.dog and Mycity.dog
Activities for Omaha Furshion Week will take place in the neighborhoods of Benson and Midtown Crossing. Earlier this month, Omaha.dog hosted a model search for dogs to walk the runway on the main stage.
“We’ve have some really fun and creative activities for owners and their dogs to partake in, ” says the Jeannie North.
Friday, June 3rd will be headed by Benson First Friday. A night of dog fashion-themed activities. Canvas paw painting by your dog, an amateur fashion show to showcase your talent in dressing up your pooch, and a dog-friendly beer garden hosted by Jakes Cigar Bar.
Saturday, June 4th will be hosted in Midtown Crossing‘s Turner Park. The main fashion show event will have a red carpet where you can get your photo snapped, a bone bar that will serve bones and mock-tails for humans and pets, local businesses giving away free dog items, Obedience Demos by Dharma Dog and of course, the main fashion show where all the model winners will strut the runway donning designs by professional designers.
Omaha Furshion Week’s main fashion show will be judged by some local celebs: Nicholas Huff of hutch, Megan Hunt of Hello Holiday and Jenny O (and her pug, Reagan) from Q98, and Lindsey Theis from KMTV. Omaha Fashion Week designers will also be designing for the dog models such as Ashley Redinbaugh, Sierra Morris-Fuchs, and Margi Hanlon.
Tickets are $5 donation per dog in attendance on June 4th. June 3rd in Benson is free of charge. All proceeds will go directly back to the community to support the installation of more dog waste stations around the city and will also support dog-park funding.
